Vehicle Insurance Renewal Arizona AZ
Reader’s Question:
Needing help in Arizona. I just bought a new car, so I won’t be using my old car anymore. The vehicle insurance on the old car is up for renewal. Should I still renew it?
Cathy
Mesa, AZ
Hi there, Cathy. That’s a great question to ask. Each state in the USA has its own policies on vehicle insurance, even for vehicles not in use. Fortunately, Arizona does not require that unused vehicles be insured. However, you should not just stop your vehicle insurance. There are some steps to take to make sure that the Arizona Department of Motor Vehicle is properly notified about the status of your vehicles. You will have to apply for de-insurance of your old vehicle with the DMV. This way, your vehicle will not be suspended for lack of insurance. I think that if you go to their website you will be able to do this online. However, if your vehicle is already de-insured, you will not be able to drive it in the streets of Arizona until you have it properly insured again. If you are caught driving this vehicle without the proper vehicle insurance, you can be fined from $500 up to $1,000 and have your vehicle registration and license suspended. If this happens, you will have an even tougher time getting insurance for any of your vehicles and your vehicle insurance rates will most likely increase. Aside from this, the state may require you to ask your automobile insurance company to file an SR-22 in your behalf before you can resume driving again.

Reader’s Question:
My daughter has car insurance now in Tempe AZ and she has a clean driving record. She wont be driving her car for the next year. She is selling her vehicle, and she is worried that she will be put into high risk if she goes without insurance for that long. What will happen to her auto insurance?
Reed
Tempe, AZ
Sometimes when you have had a lapse in your car insurance coverage it may not be easy to acquire decent car insurance rates when you decide to get auto insurance again. If you have prior insurance this can give you a discount on a new auto insurance policy.
So your daughter would likely lose some auto insurance discounts, such as renewal discounts or good driver discount if she has no insurance company for a year or so. Some car insurance providers will not sell you an insurance policy without at least 6 months prior insurance in Tempe.
Your daughter may want to consider getting a non-owners policy during the time in which she does not own a vehicle instead of removing her car insurance completely. This way she will have continuos car insurance on herself. A non owners policy would provide your daughter insurance coverage while driving a friend’s borrowed vehicle. The non owners policy would work as secondary liability coverage if she was in an accident and the damages extended over the vehicle owner’s limits.

Good Credit Auto Insurance North Pinal Arizona AZ
Reader’s Question:
If I pay my car insurance every month, does it help build my credit record in North Pinal, AZ?
Ben
North Pinal, AZ
Not exactly Ben. Typically auto insurance premiums are not paid on a loan contract, but rather directly to your insurance provider. You pay for future coverage and if you don’t make the payment, then you have no future coverage, therefore no credit is being given to the policyholder. In some cases, you may finance your car insurance through a premium finance contract but those contracts do not report to a credit bureau and again if you don’t pay the collateral (coverage) is cancelled.
If you have unpaid premiums or outstanding balances for coverage received then a carrier will try to collect. If they cannot collect they may forward to a collection agency. Those will negatively affect your credit report in North Pinal, AZ.
Building good credit is essential and paying your bills on time each month is a good way to start. Your credit report is something that the insurance provider will look at when you start a policy and is part of many insurance provider’s rating systems as well so it is essential to build and maintain a good credit history.

Car Insurance Arizona AZ
Reader’s Question:
My sister had her license suspended in Arizona. Is she still covered by car insurance? She lives in Gilbert, Arizona.
Laura
Gilbert, AZ
Insurance provider’s guidelines and policy terms vary so if your sister was driving without a revoked license and caused an accident in Arizona, she would have to inform his insurance provider of both issues to know for certain if the accident would be covered.
The accident might be covered if her auto insurance policy was in effect at the time of the accident and there is not an exclusion in the policy for invalid licensed driver or the loss of a license. If instead her policy shows that a motorist without a valid license is not covered then she may be left without insurance coverage if she operates a vehicle during her suspension and got involve in an accident.
However, typically the license status at the time of the claim does not change the policy status and the claim would be paid. It is essential though for motorists not to operate with a suspended, revoked or expired license because the individual could be cited by police officer and their insurance may not cover them.
If your sister finds out that his current insurance policy in Arizona is ok and will cover her if she decides to operate with his invalid license it is likely that her current insurance provider will refuse to renew her policy if her license is still revoked at renewal time. So to keep her insurance policy in place at renewal time she will need to reinstate her license.
