Reader’s Question:

I live in Mesa Arizona and recently received a speeding ticket (14 miles over limit). Will my insurance rate go up after just one offense of speeding ticket? How many points is that in my driving record?

Theresa

Mesa, AZ

Moving violations points range from 2 to 8 points in Arizona depending upon the seriousness of the offense. Speeding is listed as a three point offense by the AZ Department Of Transportation. This infraction point list does not state how much over the speed limit this point amount is for so would appear it is 3 points on an Arizona license for any speeding ticket.

Depending upon how your insurance provider’s rating system works, your car insurance premiums could go up after just one offense. To know more information about your insurance company’s rating system regarding moving violations, contact your insurance broker or the Arizona Department of Insurance which whom insurance companies must file their rates with.

Is it illegal in the drive without insurance in Arizona? I live in Glendale Arizona.

Almost every state requires every individual to have car liability insurance. All states have financial responsibility laws also. This means that even in a state that does not require auto liability insurance, you need to have sufficient assets to pay the claims if you get involved in an accident. If you don’t have enough assets, you must buy at least the state’s minimum amount of insurance.

In Arizona, the required coverages are Bodily Injury and Property Damage. The minimum required limits are $15,000 per person and $30,000 per accident for Bodily Injury and $10,000 Property Damage per accident. This requirement does not apply to motorcycles though.
